Tough Crowd

The Yankees lost last night and a lot of the fans are blaming Joe Girardi for lifting David Robertson with 2 outs and nobody on in the 11th.

The Angels rallied off of Aceves and naturally his move, which was indeed curious.

Well the message board and blogs have exploded with venom… and nowhere more than the “enter only if you dare” New York Post Sports Message Boards.

One particular fan who goes by the moniker “nacilbuper” wrote this gem on the board for Mike Vaccaro’s article whose title includes the word Crap.

CLUELESS JOE RE-TARDI! He is the worst manager in baseball…i could not care less that they won 102 games…if this was scioscia’s team they may have 135 games! Re-tardi never bunts, and his management of the bullpen is atrocious!!! I can give him a pass on the petite move, a petite looked good – but he was at the mound right before the pitch – what did he say?? But going to Aceves over Robertson?? Are u kidding me??? Wasn’t this guy a catcher? Doesn’t he have a feel for the game? If they win it all this year the title of Girardis book should be “In Spite Of Myself: How I won a World Series title being the worst manager in the game”! Scioscia is far beyond Joe – Clueless Joe is at minimum a one game liability in the playoffs vs all remaining managers

Keep in mind the Yankees won 103 games… are 5-1 in the post season and lost a close extra inning game to a tremendous Angels team.

No pleasing everyone.

Then again, this IS the Post… the paper that gave us the single greatest headline in the history of American Journalism:

One more win and Aidan will have picked another one!

The Phillies are now one win away from beating a Dodgers team that must be emotionally exhausted.

The Defending World Champs that NOBODY is giving any respect to (exactly who is picking them to repeat?) might steamroll over the team with the best record in the National League and be the first National League team to win back to back pennants since the 1995-1996 Braves.

When Jimmy Rollins drove in the tying and winning runs with 2 outs in the 9th inning last night, I started thinking of my son Aidan.

So far he picked every single Division Series correctly

And now he is one win from picking one of the two LCS results perfectly.

And if the Angels trip up Sabathia on 3 days rest, his pick of the Angels might be looking better and better.

Maybe he should be a stockbroker.

OK, this is getting nuts.

Another day and another insane 9th inning rally.

We’ve already had 5 walk off wins including 4 in extra innings.

How many closers can blow games this post season, including the one game playoff?

Well throw Jonathan Broxton onto the pile with…

Fernando Rodney
Ryan Franklin
Huston Street
Jonathan Papelbon
Joe Nathan
Brian Fuentes

And I’m not even counting Chan Ho Park who blew a save but wasn’t the closer but still blew the save the other day.

With the loss today, Broxton joins Franklin, Papelbon and Street as closers who blew a game with 2 outs in the 9th.

And of course the irony of irony is the winner of today’s game?
Brad Lidge. The one guy everyone assumed would blow a game or 3. And right now he has 4 post season appearances, has 3 saves a win and a 0.00 ERA.

So much for my pulling for the Dodgers today. The chances of a 7th game this year is slipping away.
