IT’S THE MONOLITH!

When I saw the Gigantic block that suddenly appeared at Yankee Stadium and saw all the people walking up to touch it, I immediately thought of the Dawn of Man in 2001.

Come on! I can’t be the only one who thought of that!

I love how George’s monument dwarfs that of Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Miller Huggins, Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth’s.

Were we expecting something SUBTLE?
Don’t complain folks. Steinbrenner wasn’t a subtle guy. He’s a guy who saw Yankee Stadium and said “I can do better”… TWICE!

Before anyone writes in saying I am not being respectful, remember I am a Red Sox fan who practically wrote a love letter to Steinbrenner after he died.

But look at that picture of David Wells and tell me he isn’t going to throw a bone in the air and have it turn into a spaceship!

(Hey, we’re talking about the Monolith and it is 2010! Eeerie. OK, not really.)

It’s always dopey in Philadelphia

I’m going to get the disclaimers out of the way early here.
I like the Phillies. I think they are a cool team made of some good home grown stars and I think the mini pseudo dynasty that they are creating s good for baseball.

And I like a lot of Phillies fans. A lot of my cousins grew up in Delaware and are Phillies fans. I have friends from comedy and TV who are all Philadelphia sports fans and they are good knowledgeable sports fans and very cool.

OK.

I got that out of the way.

Now I can say WHAT THE F***?
Again with another crazy Phillies fans during a game?

Seriously when I heard there was a crazy mishap on the field with a fan, just out of instinct I said “Philadelphia.”

I know it is a few bad apples… but seriously how many bad apples are there?

As a Red Sox fan I am glad Philadelphia is taking the title of “Northeastern Fan Base with a New York complex whose fans are bat sh*t crazy” away from us. But between the tazer guy, the dude vomiting on the girl and this guy who looks (and evidently SEES) like Daredevil… it’s starting to get harder and harder for Philly fans to defend themselves.

I say embrace it.
Say “Yes! We are a bunch of Cheesesteak eating lunatics and you never know when one of us is going to do something that will be the shame of our parents for all time… assuming that our parents aren’t on the field with us.”

Why not be like Raider fans? They embraced their idiocy by essentially dressing like the band Gwar.

Own it.

These days that’s all the Raiders HAVE.

Look at this guy. He’s a grown up. He might even have a job. And he is embracing his stupidity.

Or maybe like the guys who dress up as dogs. Some of those guys are FATHERS.

So if you are going to be thought of as nuts (and you ARE) then why go half way?

Just don’t be surprised if you get tazed.

IF THE PLAYOFFS STARTED TODAY… September 21, 2010

With the NL West napping before the autumnal equinox, there was some jockeying for position in the National League while the Twins are creeping ever so quietly to possibly join the Yankees for “Best Record in Baseball.”

If the Yankees lose and the Twins win, they will both have the best record in the game.

And the Phillies, who haven’t lost in over a week, may also lay claim to that title before all is said and done.

Either way, the Braves hold on the Wild Card is only one in the loss column and the Padres and Rockies could find a way for some October Baseball before it is all over.

So here are the match ups going into today.
AMERICAN LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES

NEW YORK YANKEES (AL East Champion)
has home field advantage over
TEXAS RANGERS (AL West Champion)

MINNESOTA TWINS (AL Central Champion)
has home field advantage over
TAMPA BAY RAYS (AL Wild Card)

NATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (NL East Champion)
has home field advantage over
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (NL West Champion)

CINCINNATI REDS (NL Central Champion)
has home field advantage over
ATLANTA BRAVES (NL Wild Card)

Braves had better be careful… Halladay is pitching and I have the Rockies and Padres logo ready at a moment’s notice.
