With the trade deadline looming, it is common to want to find solutions for holes on the team outside the organization.
The Red Sox need another reliable arm and a bat. But wait! Last night they got 7 masterful 1 hit shutout innings from Rubby De La Rosa (albeit with a few too many 3-0 counts.)
They needed a hit? They got one that lead to the only run in the game from Daniel Nava, who is batting .397 with OPS of .938 since his recall from Pawtucket.
With each hole filled internally, that’s a trade they DON’T have to make. And with Rubby coming over in the mega deal with LA in 2012, the trade is looking better and better and less like a salary dump!
Meanwhile the A’s lost a game where they scored 8 runs. That’s just dumb.
Time to update the Dodged Bullet/Teeth Grinder tally.
An explanation of what this is all about can be found HERE.

A’S DODGED BULLET – TEETH GRINDER Tally
Donnie Murphy homered twice and nobody seemed to pitch well on either side. The Rangers pulled away from the A’s in a 14-8 slugfest. TEETH GRINDER

RED SOX DODGED BULLET – TEETH GRINDER Tally
Despite falling into 3-0 holes all game, Rubby De La Rosa held the Twins to one hit and no runs over 7 innings. The Red Sox scored one run and that was all they needed, 1-0. DODGED BULLET
22 Dodged Bullets 28 Teeth Grinders
TOTAL: -6
I didn’t do an update for the Red Sox and Giants teeth grinders for this past Sunday, but the standings reflect those games.
Forgive me if I didn’t want to write about them.
