Jon Lester threw a complete game shutout for the A’s on Thursday night. On Friday, it was time for another All Star pitcher to take the hill for the best team in baseball.
For a while it looked like a tense pitchers duel between Scott Kazmir and Minnesota’s Kyle Gibson.
Then the A’s, led by Coco Crisp and his… um… interesting hair cut broke the game open and Kazmir cruised into the 7th with a 6-0 lead. Another night where the pen could relax.
Or maybe not. The Twins rallied for 5. Chris Parmalee and Eduardo Nunez doubled. Better wake up the pen!
Ryan Cook, Luke Gregerson and friend of the podcast Sean Doolittle restored order. It was a blip. A speed bump.
Either way, it was an A’s win.
The Red Sox helped the A’s by hanging on against the Angels while the Giants couldn’t get it done in Kansas City.
