When the A’s acquired Jon Lester from the Red Sox, it was supposed to all but clinch the AL West for the A’s. They were not going to be satisfied with a mere division. They wanted to go for it all.
Jeff Samardzija and Jon Lester joined the rotation of what was already the best team in baseball.
They had a 2 1/2 game lead over the Angels and were not about to look back.
And today they got swept by a Braves team that was hovering around .500 when the series began. They have gone on their longest losing streak of the season. Only a Texas come from behind win against the Angels have kept the A’s in a virtual tie for first, but they now trail in the loss column.
What the hell is going on here?
Oh yeah, the Giants are now just 2 back in the loss column of Los Angeles. Up is down and black is white.
