August 24th, 2014 was one of those days as a baseball fan that I wish I could just erase from my memory like in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Just about nothing that I wanted to happen happened.
The Red Sox fell behind early, came storming back only to lose to Seattle.
The Giants took an early 5-0 lead and unraveled into a bizarre 14-6 loss to the Nationals.
The A’s got thrashed by the Angels and friend of Sully Baseball, Sean Doolittle, was put on the DL.
The Yankees came from behind to win. Kansas City lost. So did the Pirates. All across baseball were final scores that made your pal Sully go “Damn it!”
There will be days like this. The best part of baseball is that there are games tomorrow and the stench of today can be wiped out.
Time to update the Dodged Bullet/Teeth Grinder tally.
An explanation of what this is all about can be found HERE.

A’S DODGED BULLET – TEETH GRINDER Tally
47 Dodged Bullets 41 Teeth Grinders
TOTAL: +6

GIANTS DODGED BULLET – TEETH GRINDER Tally
The Giants thumped Stephen Strasburg and took an early 5-0 lead. But the worn out bullpen collapsed, Jeremy Affeldt was a disaster and the Nationals poured it on in the late innings to win 14-6. TEETH GRINDER
47 Dodged Bullets 45 Teeth Grinders
TOTAL: +2

RED SOX DODGED BULLET – TEETH GRINDER Tally
The Mariners and Red Sox exchanged 3 run first innings. Boston took a lead but Seattle came back to finish the three game sweep with an 8-6 victory. TEETH GRINDER
41 Dodged Bullets 55 Teeth Grinders
TOTAL: -14
I am not being fatalistic here. I am starting to wonder if the Red Sox will win another game this year. It doesn’t look good.
