A lawsuit involving Jeff Wilpon filed by a former VP could be the first step in cleaning house of the Mets ownership… or at least that is what fans of the Mets are HOPING.

It is kind of a dark episode of The Sully Baseball Daily Podcast.

James Shields, Aaron Harang, Carl Crawford, Albert Pujols, Jeff Samardzija, Josh Collmenter, James Loney and Kevin Frandsen all added to their totals for Who Owns Baseball?

The Red Sox are eliminated… there will be a new champion this year

We’ve known this for a while, but now that it is official, it is kind of sad.

The Boston Red Sox will not defend their 2013 World Series Championship successfully. This season was lost early and maybe that it best. But the 2005 Red Sox at least got to the Division Series before being swept by eventual champion Chicago.

The 2008 Red Sox lost a thrilling 7 game ALCS to the Tampa Bay Rays.

This Sox team went into rebuilding mode and yesterday afternoon’s game put them to bed. The Orioles jumped ahead 8-0 and 10-1. The Sox scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th. Usually 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th is a positive thing.

In this case it was simply the last gasp of a champion before sinking to the bottom of the sea. The Red Sox are officially eliminated from both the American League East race and the Wild Card hunt.

2013 was a one hit wonder. We all knew that. The players like Napoli and Victorino and Gomes and Uehara and Drew and Ross were meant to be stop gaps. They were major leaguers whose job it was to make sure some of the kids did not need to be called up too soon.

They were short term solutions signed to short term deals.

Nobody expected them to win a Championship. But they did.

Now instead of trying to recapture that magic, the Red Sox intelligently decided to cut bait and build towards the next title.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t have a wistful moment to say good bye to the champs.

I would love to see a new Red Sox team built from the ground up. And someday I’d like to see them win back to back titles.

It won’t happen this year.

I guess I should update the Dodged Bullet/Teeth Grinder tally.

An explanation of what this is all about can be found HERE.

GIANTS DODGED BULLET – TEETH GRINDER Tally

The Diamondbacks and Giants were scoreless until the bottom of the 7th. Vogelsong pitched 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball but on a tight rope. Gregor Blanco put the Giants on the board with a double and sparked a 4 run 7th. The Giants would take the game, 5-0. DODGED BULLET

RED SOX DODGED BULLET – TEETH GRINDER Tally

A late 5 run rally showed some life for the Red Sox but in the end they would be eliminated from the East and the Wild Card after Baltimore won, 10-6. TEETH GRINDER

I will continue the Red Sox tally even though they are eliminated. Why? Why not?
