I was very taken by Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati. Sure it was a cookie cutter park. But it was the home to the Big Red Machine. The greatest teams in Cincinnati sports history called the place home.
Plus its setting along the river was lovely and Cincinnati is a nice city.
And unlike Shea Stadium, Three Rivers Stadiums and other concrete donuts made in the late 1960’s, early 1970’s, Riverfront Stadium had a wide concourse around the stadium that was open air.
When my dad and I would go get concessions, we were not in a claustrophobic, cramped setting. It was open where we could see the river and get a sense of where we were geographically.
Do not disrespect all concrete donuts. Riverfront had character.
