9D2CE77A-6144-4EC3-A158-61D19C1696B4In a year or so, we may forget these crazy races for the AL Central, the NL Central and especially the NL Wild Card. But like a Fast and Furious sequel, they are fun summer entertainment we should just enjoy. Meanwhile, Corban Joseph, age 30, got his first big league homer. That is worth celebrating.

Let’s see owned baseball on August 14, 2019

Earning Full WOBs:

Pete Alonso reached base 6 times, driving in 6 and put the Mets ahead for good with a towering homer leading to a nail biting 10-8 victory over the Braves.

Andrew Heaney struck out 6 White Sox and walked none over 7 innings to earn the 8-7 decision for the Angels.

José Ramírez put the game away early against the Yankees with a first inning grand slam and a second inning 2 run shot. He reached base 4 times altogether and lead Cleveland to a 19-5 laugher.

Dereck Rodríguez threw 7 scoreless frames, striking out 4, as the Giants blanked Arizona, 7-0.

Earning 1/2 WOBs:

Michael Brantley went 3 for 4 with 2 homers but the Astros dropped the wild 7-6 slug fest in Oakland.

Yu Darvish struck out 10 Phillies over 7 shutout innings but watched helplessly as the Cubs bullpen melted down and allowed a walk off grand slam to seal the 7-5 final.

Josh Donaldson homered twice, driving in 3, but the Braves comeback against the Mets came up short, 10-8.

Héctor Rondón was the only stable pitcher in a wild homer frenzy in Oakland, giving the Astros 1 2/3 scoreless innings and allowing the club to comeback. They would eventually lose the 7-6 game.
