IF A PITCHER THROWS A NO HITTER AND NOBODY IS THERE TO SEE IT…

Lucas Giolito threw the first no no of this strange season. And thankfully it was an old fashioned 9 inning no hitter and not one where we had to debate if a 7 inning no no should count. This is the White Sox’s first no hitter since the out of nowhere perfect game by Phillip Humber in 2012. Safe to say Giolito was a good pick up by the White Sox front office.

Now to update the list.

Let’s see who owned baseball on August 24, 2020.

For an explanation of how WOB works, click here.

Earning Full WOBs:

Javier Báez homered twice and added a single to lead the Cubs past the Tigers, 9-3.

Jack Flaherty allowed 1 hit and no runs over 5 innings to earn the 9-3 decision for St. Louis over the Royals.

Lance Lynn struck out 8 Oakland batters in 6 strong innings and the Rangers hung on to a 3-2 victory.

Kyle Tucker reached base 4 times, including a homer and a double, as the Astros pounded the Angels, 11-4.

Earning 1/2 WOBs:

Trevor Bauer pitched into the 7th, striking out 8 Brewers in 6 1/3 innings. But he was on the wrong end of a 6-4 decision for Cincinnati.

Blake Snell fanned 9 Blue Jays in 5 2/3 innings but the Rays bullpen dropped the 6-4 final.

Juan Soto went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles but the Nationals lost an 11-8 slugfest with Miami.

Yoshi Tsutsugo got on base 4 times, including a home run, scoring a pair of runs but the Rays fell short to Toronto, 6-4.
