As the season has begun, it is time again to start the Who Owned Baseball Tally for 2023.
It is called “WOB”.
So what is WOB?
“Who Owns Baseball?” is my own personal “SullyMetric” for determining which player had the best performance of the day.
At the end of each day, I figure out which American League and which National League pitcher had the most memorable and admirable day. The ones who had the best day for a winning team earns 1 WOB.
Those who had the best day on a losing team earned 1/2 WOB.
And because I am an absolute lunatic, I keep a tally for the whole season and see which player has the highest “WOB”.
It is not a random selection. Statistical analysis plays a big part in determining who adds to their WOB total. But there are other factors.
Last Season, Aaron Judge had the highest WOB total for an American League Hitter with 11.
Alek Manoah edged out Justin Verlander for the highest WOB total for AL Pitchers.
Shohei Ohtani had the highest overall American League tally with 14 1/2 (9 1/2 as a pitcher, 5 as a hitter)
Pete Alonso took the title for NL hitters with 10 1/2
Sandy Alcantara topped National League pitchers with a 15 WOB total.
The tally has begun for 2023. Who will Own Baseball at the end of the year?
The complete final tallies for 2022 are seen below.
