I’ll take a shortened game!

Now I guess this goes as a complete game win for Josh Beckett.

But because last night’s game was fewer than 6 innings, does it count as a quality start?
Not sure about that.
Either way, the Sox bats were hot, Beckett wasn’t letting up homers (that makes two straight good starts) and God eventually said “OK, that’s enough.”
Good offense, a deep bullpen and both Beckett and Lester throwing well is a nice October recipe.
The Sox have buried the Rays… now if only these Rangers would get a hint and fold.

The weather taketh… the weather giveth

I guess the score is settled with God.

When rain washed away the last 3 1/2 innings of the 2-1 loss to the Marlins, I got mad at the weather.
Today, the wind pushed what might have been a bloop double by Nick Green into the cheapest walk off homer you will ever see.
And it doesn’t matter if the wind hooks it around Pesky’s Pole or he shot it over the wall, breaking someone’s window and making them call 1-800-54-GIANT… it is the same result.
The Red Sox won the series and I’ll update the tally.

DODGED A BULLET GAMES – 8

April 17 – 10-8 win against Orioles. (Overcame 7-0 deficit.)
April 24 – 5-4 win against Yankees. (Bay homers off of Rivera in 9th to tie it.)
April 25 – 16-11 win against Yankees. (Overcame 6-0 deficit.)
April 29 – 6-5 win at Cleveland. (Overcame 5-0 deficit.)
May 12 – 4-3 win at Anaheim. (Down 3-1 in the 8th.)
June 11 – 4-3 win against Yankees. (Down 3-1 in the 8th. Rallied against Sabathia.)
June 12 – 5-2 win at Philadelphia. (Overcame Ryan Howard’s 9th inning shot to win in 13)
June 21 – 6-5 win against Atlanta. (The wind turns Nick Green’s fly ball into a walk off shot)
TEETH GRINDER GAMES – 7
April 14 – 6-5 loss at Oakland. (Sox blow early 3-0 lead. Lose in 12)
April 28 – 9-8 loss at Cleveland. (Sox blow early 5-1 lead. Lopez drops 3rd out.)
May 14 – 5-4 loss at Anaheim. (Ortiz goes 0-7 stranding 12 runners.)
May 15 – 5-4 loss at Seattle. (Red Sox blow their second 4-0 lead in three days.)
May 17 – 3-2 loss at Seattle. (Red Sox strand two in the 9th. Lose in the bottom of the 9th.)
May 23 – 3-2 loss to the Mets. (Papelbon lets up a 2 out 2 run homer in the 9th to Omir Santos)
June 18 – 2-1 loss to the Marlins. (Rain washes out a tight game after 5+ innings.)

Now on to face the Nationals… if watching Yankee games is any indication, they are a tough squad!

Oh let us play one more inning!!!

Thanks God.

Really… thanks a bunch.

You couldn’t let the rain ease up for ONE inning!

The Sox were down 2-1 in the top of the 6th… and safe to say there was more than enough time to score one run.

Lester was settling in! Youk could have homered again!

There was more than enough time to complete the sweep of the Marlins! Don’t get me wrong, I am fine with 2 out of 3 against anyone… but still!

Why start the game if it looked like it was going to get washed out?!!!

Look at me.
I’m grinding my teeth!

I guess by definition this was a teeth grinder. And it is no fault of the Red Sox, but if they miss the playoffs by a game, I’ll be thinking of this game!

OK, better add it to the tally.
