Let’s see owned baseball on April 16, 2019

Earning Full WOBs:

Jon Gray struck out 5 Padres in 7 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run to earn the 8-2 win for Colorado.

Scott Kingery hit a back breaking first inning grand slam and added a double and single in the Phillies 14-3 trashing of the Mets.

Mike Minor threw a complete game 3 hit shutout, striking out 7, as the Rangers blanked the Angels 5-0.

Yoán Moncada homered twice in the White Sox 5-1 victory over the Royals.

Earning 1/2 WOBs:

Ronald Acuña Jr. reached base 4 times, including a homer, but the Braves dropped a wild 9-6 game to Arizona.

Matthew Boyd struck out 7 Pirates in 7 innings, allowing 3 runs and walking just 1. He did not get the decision as the Tigers dropped the 5-3 game in 10 innings.

Tom Murphy doubled twice and singled, driving in a run, but the Mariners continued to cool down in the 4-2 loss to Cleveland.

Matt Wisler stopped the bleeding with 2 solid shutout innings from the bullpen, striking out 3 Rockies. But the rest of the San Diego pitching staff was off in the 8-2 defeat.

Earning Full WOBs:

Shane Bieber became the latest Cleveland pitcher to dominate a game, throwing 7 shutout innings, striking out 6, to blank the Tigers, 4-0.

Khris Davis homered twice for the second straight game to slug the A’s past Baltimore, 8-5.

Jose Martinez went 4 for 5 with a double while scoring 3 to help the Cardinals beat the Dodgers, 11-7.

Jose Quintana struck out 11 Pirates over 7 shutout innings to give the Cubs a much needed 2-0 victory.

Earning 1/2 WOBs:

Ronald Acuña Jr. homered and added two other hits but the Braves came up short against the Mets, 6-3.

Freddy Galvis collected 4 hits, including a homer, but Toronto’s bullpen melted down and allowed the Red Sox to walk off 7-6 winners.

Jon Gray pitched into the 7th, allowing just 1 run over 6 1/3 innings, striking out 6 Giants but the Rockies were blanked, 1-0.

Jorge Lopez kept the Mariners scoreless through 5 and finished with 6 innings, 3 hits and 2 runs. He would not factor into the decision as the Royals fell in 10, 7-6.

Let’s see owned baseball on March 31, 2019

Earning Full WOBs:

 

Jeimer Candelario collected 5 hits, including a double, driving in a pair, as the Tigers held on to a 4-3 extra inning final in Toronto.

Yonny Chirinos held the Astros to 2 hits, 1 run on a solo homer and no walks while striking out 6 and earning the 3-1 decision for Tampa Bay.

Christian Yelich got on base 5 times, hit a homer and a come from behind, walk off 2 run double in the 9th to give the Brewers a dramatic 5-4 win over St. Louis.

Sandy Alcantara threw 8 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits and no walks, striking out 6 as the Marlins blanked Colorado, 3-0.

 

 

Earning 1/2 WOBs:

Matt Carpenter homered, doubled and walked but the Cardinals bullpen blew the 5-4 game in Milwaukee.

Jon Gray pitched into the 7th, striking out 10 Marlins and walking only 1 in 6 2/3 innings. He would take the hard luck 3-0 decision for the Rockies.

J. D. Martinez reached base 4 times, including a homer, but the Red Sox were out slugged by Seattle, 10-8.

Trent Thornton retired 15 of 17 batters he faced in his big league debut, striking out 8 Tigers over 5 shutout innings. He did not factor in the decision as the Blue Jays dropped the 4-3 game in 11 innings.
