Some old fashioned pitchers duels took place today. A pitcher who started the season so badly that he was sent to the minors dominated and a future Hall of Famer padded his resume.
Each winning team for every post season game gets a pitcher and a hitter who earn a full WOO(Who Owns October.)
And at my discretion, I award a 1/2 WOO’S to a worthy player on the losing team.
But the World Series deserves its own stats. WOWS (Who Owns the World Series.)
At the end of the post season, we will see who had the highest WOO total as a pitcher and a hitter. The WOWS total will be kept separately. Each game now counts towards both tallies.
A complete description of the rules can be found HERE.
Receiving 1 WOO
José Altuve broke a scoreless tie with a 2 run home run that put the Astros up over the Rays for good in the 6-2 final.
Zack Britton pitched a key shutout inning in relief that kept the Twins at bay before the Yankees opened the flood gates to a 10-4 laugher.
Adam Duvall hit a key pinch hit 2 run homer to give the Braves breathing room in their 3-0 victory over St. Louis.
Mike Foltynewicz threw 7 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 7 as the Braves blanked St. Louis, 3-0.
DJ LeMahieu got 3 hits, including a home run and a bases clearing double, to lead the Yankees to a 10-4 rout of the Twins.
Anthony Rendon reached base 3 times, including an RBI double, to help the Nationals double up the Dodgers, 4-2.
Stephen Strasburg dominated the Dodgers, striking out 10 in 6 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run while walking none as the Nationals held on to win, 4-2.
Justin Verlander struck out 8 Rays over 7 innings of 1 hit shutout ball to earn the 6-2 decision for Houston.
Receiving 1/2 WOO
Jack Flaherty threw 7 strong innings, striking out 8 Braves, but took the hard luck 3-0 decision for St. Louis.
Clayton Kershaw got off to a shaky start but rebounded to give the Dodgers 6 innings and 3 runs. The early damage was too much as the Nationals took the 4-2 final.
Austin Meadows doubled, driving in a run, in the Rays 6-2 loss to Houston.
Yadier Molina collected 2 hits and threw out a runner in the Cardinals 3-0 shutout by the Braves.
Max Muncy walked and homered but the Dodgers dropped the 4-2 game to the Nationals.
