WHO OWNED OCTOBER (#WOO) – TALLIES UPDATED FOR AL DIVISION SERIES GAME 1, October 5 , 2020

Karen Warren – Houston Chronicle

The Astros and Yankees came to play and slugged their way to early series leads. Will Oakland and Tampa Bay bounce back?

Who owned October on October 5?

Each winning team for every post season game gets a pitcher and a hitter who earn a full WOO(Who Owns October.)

And at my discretion, I award a 1/2 WOO’S to a worthy player on the losing team.

But the World Series deserves its own stats. WOWS (Who Owns the World Series.)

At the end of the post season, we will see who had the highest WOO total as a pitcher and a hitter. The WOWS total will be kept separately. Each game now counts towards both tallies.

A complete description of the rules can be found HERE.

From October 5, 2020 –

GAME 1 of the AL DIVISION SERIES

Receiving 1 WOO

Gerrit Cole was not his dominant self but he did the job with 8 strikeouts in 6 innings to earn the 9-3 decision for the Yankees.

Carlos Correa homered twice and singled as the Astros came from behind to double up the A’s, 10-5.

Kyle Higashioka reached base 3 times, including a game tying home run, and scored 2 runs to help the Yankees top Tampa Bay, 9-3.

Enoli Paredes threw 2 key shutout innings, not allowing a hit nor a walk while striking out a pair of Athletics to help the Astros seal the 10-5 final.

Receiving 1/2 WOO

Ji-Man Choi hit a 2 run homer that briefly gave the Rays the lead. They would fall to the Yankees, 9-3.

Khris Davis hit a home run and added a single in the A’s 10-5 loss to Houston.

Yusmeiro Petit pitched the A’s out of a 5th inning jam and looked to be the pitcher of record when they took the lead. The Astros would come back to take the 10-5 final.

Ryan Thompson gave the Rays 2 shutout innings in relief but the Yankees would hold on to a 9-3 defeat.
