Before a game in 1997, a giant flower ring was presented at Shea. Bobby Valentine was either given it or presented it.

I would make fun of it, but I do not know what the ceremony was for and I do not want to look disrespectful.

Oh and by the way, those Mets uniform without pinstripes were the best home unis they ever had.

The 1992 Mets were kind of lousy but at the beginning of the year there was a lot of optimism at Shea.

One afternoon, I went with a bunch of my college friends to a game between the Mets and Dodgers.

Dave Magadan ended the game with a 3 run walk off homer. I took this picture right as Shea was rocking.

It didn’t rock much that year.

Checking on an injured Jeff Kent on this day in 1997, Shea Stadium – Sully Baseball Daily Photo at Noon for April 13, 2018

On April 13, 1997, Jeff Kent drove in Barry Bonds with an RBI double in Shea Stadium. He was thrown out stretching it to third and injured his neck.

The game I attended with my cousin Dave came to a stand still as Kent was checked on. This pic shows Bonds, Dusty Baker, Carlos Baerga, Rey Ordonez, Sonny Jackson and the late Darryl Hamilton waiting for Kent to be carted off.

He would be fine eventually.
